(Well, it was only a matter of time before someone pointed it out and Claude watches Soo-won carefully, considering him for a moment before replying lightly,)
[not too beat up... his expression turns thoughtful at that - ]
My country has been engaging in warfare recently - so you could say that I'm not unfamiliar with danger and death. It's never pleasant, but I don't think it touches me as heavily as others, who seem to come from more... peaceful times.
Even still - it's not to say that it isn't unfortunate that anyone had to lose their life at all.
War is pretty imminent back home. Actually, it's already started, depending on which side you're on. Personally? I plan on staying out of it as long as possible. (What's up, Neutrality Route.) Things had been bubbling under the surface for awhile, though so I'm not exactly a stranger either.
(But Soo-won has a point in the end and he can't help but get a little forlorn,)
Right... (Sighing,) Life is valuable. Losing someone is always unfortunate, especially when it was someone good like her.
Mm... she was a stranger to me - but in the time that we knew each other, she was kind. It's hard to think, if this is personal, what drove someone to choose her.
[but that's something that they can only conjecture about -
rather, he'd prefer to at least acknowledge:]
If you can stay out of the fighting, it's for the best, isn't it? More lives saved that way. Even if there are times when it comes to fighting...
It's often those without decision-making power who pay the greatest costs. I'm still sorry to hear that it's arrived at your doorstep.
Yeah, same here. I won't pretend I was close but the time I knew her, she was real kind. It doesn't make sense to me either.
(Oh, man, is this de ja vu or what?)
Hah! (He sounds impressed,) It's good to meet someone who gets it. Picking a side would split the Alliance right down the middle and there's no way we'd stand a chance like that.
(The troubles of having to keep so many territories together,)
... Right. That's what I've been saying for awhile. (Who knew they'd have so much in common, wow.) Don't worry about me. If there's one thing you gotta know about me, it's I can take care of myself.
I hope you own situation gets better, though. War's a pretty nasty thing. If you ask me, there's really no winners.
You hail from an Alliance? Let me guess - a multitude of different personalities, all stubborn and prideful and so very human? The tribes in my country are like that. They've only just recently figured out how to work together - and even that can be a stretch some days.
[though he sounds fond, regardless. ah, those quirky nobles.]
Fufu, then I'll trust in that - I'm glad you can look after yourself.
Even if war is a terrible thing, that ought to be avoided... [he hums thoughtfully] The battles at the edges of my country have primarily been to re-establish borders in order to fend off new invasions from neighboring countries.
It's unfortunate that even to maintain the peace, you need displays of force so that others don't mistake your peace for weakness.
(Oh. It's interesting how things work out sometimes. Of course, Claude wants nothing more than to return to Fodlan. After all, there were things he needed to do. A war to dance around, an alliance to keep together, an empire to fight off, and well... that other thing.
But he doesn't regret coming here, especially when he can meet people like Soo-won.
He smiles, thoughtful and terribly amused to himself, )
Interesting... It would appear our situations aren't too dissimilar . (Not exactly the same, of course,) In fact, you remind me of someone.
(As to who? He doesn't say.)
It's a shame we had to find out under these circumstances.
[he wonders what the similarity is - but even so, he huffs a breath out at that]
You mean with the fate of the universes in the balance of everything we do? Certainly there are better places to meet people. I personally enjoy over tea.
(Just going to give Soo-won a wink. It'll be Claude's secret for now. Just another one to add to his ever present list.)
Ah... another thing we have in common. (This really is kind of hilarious. He has to wonder if this is coincidence or the work of something higher.) I'll tell you what.
Let's focus on the immediate problem in front of us. We'll find Hajime's killer, figure out what to do with them, and get some answers about this place.
... I realize that's a lot to ask for but I'm sure if we work together, we can accomplish it.
(There he goes again. It's the same thing he'd said Wednesday night. "Working together.")
After, I'd like to pick your brain a bit. See what you think.

I went to go check out the forest with Hilda and Sora. A squirrel bit me. (Inhales,) Go ahead. Let it out.
(You can laugh. He's perfectly aware of how embarrassing this is.)
no subject
Let's hope it wasn't carrying anything infectious. Let me know if you feel unwell after some time? You should have more water, just in case.
[can you flush rabies out of your system who can say]
no subject
Aw, man, could you imagine if it did? What a way to go.... death by squirrel. Talk about nuts.
(Maybe he's a little too chill about you know.... death... on death day. It's cool.)
Don't worry, it'll take more than a rodent to kill me.
(He'll kill Pikachu first tbh.)
no subject
Then I trust you won't get overconfident about it - that's the easiest way to let the rodents win.
You seem remarkably composed, all things considered.

You're not too beat up yourself.
