...sure enough, she returns with a bow and some arrows, which she's got tucked into the sash at her waist for lack of a quiver. She doesn't really see any reason to hide it at this point.]
But, onward to the forest, anyway. She's been here a few times since getting her bow - and she seems pretty comfortable with the trail.]
How far in do you want to go?
[She's not really afraid of running into any animals - the smaller ones she can handle, and the more dangerous ones... well, they're both armed! What do they have to be afraid of?]
Not too far. Wouldn't want to make you nervous being out alone in the woods with some guy. (He's teasing.) But enough so we don't get in anyone's way, for sure.
(Safety first.)
Archer mentioned he made a bow and arrows for a student. I'm guessing that was you since you gave him a knife?
I think "some guy" should be more nervous about being out alone in the woods with me.
[She's teasing too! Obviously. But at his question, she nods. There really isn't much reason to hide it, given that they were both pretty upfront about it at the trial.]
Yes. We talked a little when we first woke up here, and he agreed to teach me some things and make a bow for me so I wouldn't fall out of practice, since mine didn't come here with me.
(He feigns a tremble, rubbing his arms as if to ward off a sudden, nonexistent chill,)
Hah. He must like you. (They come to an area in the forest, not quite a clearing but with few enough trees that they can practice with some distance,) He made me work for mine.
(And she might notice not a single one of Claude's arrows match any of Chiron's work,)
I'm glad it all worked out for you, though. Hopefully you like whatever it was you got instead.
[This clearing definitely works. Yona surveys it for a moment or two, then nods, satisfied; there'll be plenty of space for the both of them.]
Maybe. Or maybe I just asked him early enough that he didn't have a whole bunch of other people asking for the same thing.
[Her expression sort of flattens out. Hopefully you like whatever it was you got... well, it's a nice sentiment, but from the look on her face it's pretty clear she doesn't.
Anyway, she raises her bow, nocks an arrow, and takes aim at a tree while speaking.]
I don't, really, but that's okay. I've managed with plenty of things I don't like before.
(He'll watch her, curious to see what her form and skill are like. He doesn't appear too bothered by being caught out by his comment, if anything, he just lets it wash off him like water off a duck and moves on with the conversation,)
Resilient! I like it. It's a good skill to have here.
[THWIP! She fires the arrow and it sticks in the center of the tree trunk she was aiming at. I don't know shit about archery but it's canon that she's gotten pretty good at it.]
People are resilient. With enough time, they can get used to anything.
(Are there any archers in this game that aren't played by a bunch of fake players
Good form! Good shot! It's all good and Claude raises his own bow, and aims. It his turn now.)
For better or worse, right?
(He releases his arrow, sending it straight ahead and... right above Yona's! It's pretty close give or take a few centimeters. This is just going to be their game for now.)
Anyway, Yona raises an eyebrow at that, then adjusts her aim juuust a little...]
Right. Though, hopefully there won't be any need for them to get used to what happened last week.
[Haha yeah good luck with that this is a murdergame. She releases her arrow, and it sticks to the tree just above Claude's. This is indeed their game for now.]
But hm! Speedy. Well, she'll take a moment to eyeball the distance between her last arrow and his, and then quickly take aim - when hers thunks into the tree, it's above his, more or less the same distance.]
...I know. It just seems a little unfair, for the people who aren't used to this sort of thing.
(The trick here though is he wonders how high Yona might go before she shoots an arrow that is too far out of her reach to retrieve easily. His next shot is higher once again,)
No one should have to live their life always thinking about death. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
[She also shoots higher, when she takes her turn, because she definitely intends on scaling the tree to get them back if they have to. She doesn't want to lose, the stubborn fool.]
(He's only got one more arrow to go so he really has to make it count. It would be easy to shoot higher, he thinks, but what good would that do? They would just be left climbing trees to recover their arrows and that would be more trouble than it was worth. It's easy to shoot high which is why this time, he nocks his arrow, takes aim and
Fires right at her last arrow. Where as the others had all had some measured difference, a growing distance between them as they'd gone higher and higher, this time, he tries to aim as close to her's as possible. Of course, it takes real skill to do something like split and arrow and there's always some room for error, even during perfect conditions with one's personal, best arrows.
But his arrow comes close to hers, only slightly above hers. If they'd had a real target with rings, they'd probably be sharing the same ring.)
I think we're the same. (Lowering his bow and watching her now,) Of course, I expect us to have our differences but hopefully, we can work through those if not set them aside for what we want here.
Yona narrows her eyes, then draws her last arrow from where it's tucked into the sash at her waist, and nocks it.
She takes a little longer to aim, this time. And as much as she would like to try to split his arrow down the middle, that would be wasteful, given that they don't have all that many to start with. When she lets it fly, she holds her breath - and it sticks to the tree with a solid thunk, just to the left of his.
Yona lowers her bow and smiles at him.]
Some differences are a good thing - having different perspectives will help us notice things the other might miss. But I think we're similar enough that we should be able to work together.
And he tucks bow under his arm and gives her a polite round of applause,)
Well, that was fun. We'll have to do this again!
(Truly! He had a lot of fun and he's going to go over to collect those arrows! The first few are easy to get but once they start to get higher up, he sets his bow down next to him and kneels down, and looks at Yona,)
I'll give you hand.
(He laces his fingers together, a nice little step for Yona to perch herself on to reach those higher arrows easily.)
...okay, so that's not exactly how it goes, but it's also not totally inaccurate and it's funny, so it's staying in this tag. With the boost, it's much easier for her to grab the higher arrows - though she does have to stretch her arm out a little for the highest ones.]

[Don't mind her just walking off to her room!
...sure enough, she returns with a bow and some arrows, which she's got tucked into the sash at her waist for lack of a quiver. She doesn't really see any reason to hide it at this point.]
Ready to go?
no subject
... Just like he said, huh.
(What does that even mean.
He just takes his bow and arrows and taps them against his shoulder, signaling for her to follow him over towards the forest to practice.)
Let's go.

(His turn and this time, he readies his bow and draws quickly, with barely enough time to aim.
... Which must have been enough considering he's struck his arrow higher, this time, increasing the difference more. It's Yona's turn once more.)

Thanks, Claude.

(Lowering her so she can hop off without tripping or anything or something!! And it's time to divvy up their arrows properly.)
You're welcome, Yona.
I mean it. We should do this again. I find practicing usually helps me focus when I can see a clear target in front of me.
(Just sharing study tips.
AND THEN THEY GO AT IT AGAIN NEXT WEEK I GUESS)
